5 Keys To A Successful Race

1. 🚀 Fast Starts

A great race begins with a powerful, efficient start. Encourage your swimmer to practice their racing starts every day—they should train their body to react quickly and execute clean, fast entries, no matter the event.

2. ⏱️ Perfect Streamline & Tight Turns

If you're swimming 25 yard or beyond, streamline and/or turns can make or break a race. Remind your swimmer to focus on smooth, fast, and tight turns—tucking tightly, keeping arms extended, and pushing off with a perfect streamline. Every and turn is an opportunity to gain an edge.

3. 🎯 Disciplined Finishes

The best finishes are earned in practice. Swimmers should always finish strong—head down, full extension, and no gliding into the wall. The habit of finishing every length with intent will make a huge difference when races are tight.

4. 🌬️ Consistent Breathing Pattern

Breathing patterns are often overlooked but can impact every race. Whether it’s alternate breathing in freestyle or one up, one down in butterfly—practicing this pattern in training helps ensure it holds up under pressure.

5. 🥗 Nutrition & Hydration

Champions fuel like champions. Encourage your swimmer to build smart habits outside the pool—eating well, hydrating consistently, and taking care of their body. The right nutrition throughout the season can give them the extra boost when it matters most.
